One that the points that has perplexed me a bit about GM end the year is your desire to put 99 mph peak speeds on their trucks and big SUV's.

You are watching: How to remove speed limiter on chevy tahoe

My concern is, the 6.2 liter V8 through the 8 speed auto apparently has actually the capacity to optimal out at it's 99 mph limiter by the finish of the 1/4 mile.

So there is potential of the going 100+ in a 1/4 mile if it wasn't limited.

Is there a method to defeat the speed limiter there is no a tune?

I'd love to watch what this van will carry out at the drag strip "stock" without it being restricted to 99 mph.

Plus I'd love for it to have actually a 110-112 mph top speed simply in instance I need uncover myself up follow me side a competitor, as every one of the competitor trucks are limited to 107+ mph.

They are big heavy attention machines and they are not design for peak speed. The being said I am v you on the topic. I would love to go quicker than 100, yet I fully understand and also won't argue with the limiter.

Common understanding that higher speeds can reason catastrophic drive tower failure. Just look in ~ dyno pulls because that GM trucks. If you want to walk faster, you require a tune.

My cousin cases his is minimal to 115, he has a 5.3. In a quarter mile on A TRACK sure I'd push it above 100 but, I've to be told that periodically they limit speed due to driveshaft balance. I had my sierra up to around 90, it had actually hwy tires, my 16 silverado contends tires and also I have actually no desire to run it that fast....

I have actually the 5.3 and also it goes end 100. It to be at the very least 105. Ns don't know what it's restricted at though. I'm 100% stock. Idk why some are limited lower than others, uneven it's because of tire ratings.

If it helps, my truck is a 16 5.3/3.42 4x4 cc. Lt z71. Nothing special, it would seem. Came v the 18s.

The software is what limits the rate so clearly you need a tune. Either handheld or custom tune. Ns turned my speed limiter off. I have no intention in going over it anyway however I don't feel I have to be limited like a child either

Thanks for the responses.

As i figured that would require a software application flash, but I've never owned a GM truck before this, so I'm not in the know around all GM's standards, practices, or if their are other tricks the you have the right to do without a flash. I'm likewise unaware of every their reasons (like some stated about the driveshaft).

However i did check out an short article that provided another (older model) GM truck with a top speed of 107. Possibly that to be an anomaly prefer others have actually posted where their van actually execute go above 99 mph. But I do know that numerous (or most) of GM's trucks/Tahoes/Yukons/Suburbans are limited to 99 mph for plenty of years.

Motor Trend, or perhaps it to be C&D tested a new 6.2 with 8 speed auto and detailed the 1/4 mile trap rate at 99 mph.

That's what motivated the question. Figured they can of struggle the speed limiter sometime before the end component of the 1/4 mile, do me wonder if the truck would of struggle 100+ had it not been limited.

Thanks again all.

I live in Texas and also have travel north and also west on roads with greater speed limits. Every van I've owed with a limiter I've removed it with a hand held tuner. More than a couple of times being able come go quicker has been a life saver. Two lane roads out west have high rate limits and also passing would require a little more than 99 MPH. I think more than a couple of people would invest a couple of dollars much more for tires that manage 120mph if that's what that takes. I can't imagine the journey shafts a problem. You can get all technical around gear ratios and driveshaft speed and despute that.
